A Global Uprising: 2017 Women's March On Washington
The 2017 Women’s March on Washington was inspired by the Million Woman March of 1997 in Philadelphia, PA. In 1997, 750,000 African American women gathered together to rally and march focusing on their trials, circumstances, and success. This year over 2 million women and men marched in solidarity for women’s equality not only in Washington D.C., but across the world. The Women's March on Washington was a day long march and program expressing the disgust of the derogatory comments made by President Elect Donald Trump. The march was accompanied by activists and musicians such as Angela Davis, Melissa Harris-Perry, Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae, Madonna, and Maxwell.
